So last month, progressive rock singer-songwriter/musician/producer Omar Rodríguez-López (of Mars Volta, Bosnian Rainbows, At The Drive-In) began releasing solo albums every two weeks which he plans to do until the end of the year. WHAT??? THAT’S INSANE!! That’s a total of 12 biweekly album releases of music he has recorded over the last few years. I love this! While prog rock may not be everyone’s cup of tea, you have to admire when an artist opens up to his audience as much as Rodríguez-López is doing with this purge of solo albums. It’s a constant stream of consciousness. Que chingón!
The top video “Running Away” is from his second album, Corazones which is music inspired by his mother who passed away a few years ago. Here is the video for “Pineapple Face/Not Even Toads Love You” (great titles by the way) – if you are feeling like something a little more electronic – from the first release, Sworn Virgins.
So far he has released 3 albums: Sworn Virgins, Corazones and most recently Blind Worms, Pious Swine. Stay tuned for more releases… I know I will!
